Augmented reality enhances the visit by adding layers of interpretation directly on site that are not immediately visible at first glance: stories, details, contexts and viewpoints that help you better understand what is before you. It is an experience that
physically guides you towards an understanding of the places: as you walk and look around, the content is activated in real space and directs your gaze towards elements, traces and relationships within the landscape.
The two Augmented Reality POIs (Points of Interest)
We have designed two stops to enrich your experience in Ferrara, taking you through two important moments in the history of the Este Duchy.
Accompanying you on this journey is the Unicorn, a mythical creature cherished by the Este family.
You may already have come across it in various places around the city, such as on the portal of Palazzo Schifanoia.
The image you see here is taken from the Bible of Borso d’Este, preserved in the Estense Library in Modena.
In iconographic terms, it represented an Este impresa. With its horn touching the ground, it reclaimed the marshlands that once covered much of the Ferrarese territory.
This is why it became the symbol of the great land reclamation carried out over the years by the Este Duchy.

The points we invite you to visit are close to one another and can easily be reached on foot from the historic city centre.

- Permissions
You will be asked for permission to use your device’s sensors in order to access the augmented reality experience: geolocation, camera, motion and orientation sensors. - Select the POI
After selecting the POI, you will see your distance from the point where the augmented reality experience becomes available. - Reach the POI
When you are within approximately 10 metres, you will be able to access the AR experience. - Choose how to explore
You can watch and listen to the video, with or without subtitles, or switch to the text version at any time.
You can move freely between video and text, or close the content and return to the exploration.
